Grandma's Visit - Blue Mountains

We left Sydney shortly after noon and headed for the Blue Mountains, which are about 100 kms west (inland) from Sydney. Once again, we had to climb the escarpment of Australia, taking us up and up into the mountains, twisting and turning as we climbed. By the time we got to our destination, the town of Katoomba, it was late afternoon and it was very cloudy and overcast. Our accomodation - St. Elmo's Heritage Inn - was so fancy (not! that's a story in and of itself) that we almost didn't go back out into the miserable weather, but we decided we couldn't miss anything. So we went and saw the famous "Three Sisters", seen below.

Here is a great picture of the boys with Grandma....

Then we turned the camera over to mum to take a family photo of us. (This is what most of the photos in my childhood albums look like - mum's trademark headless person pictures - we had a huge laugh over this one!)

Since the visibility was so poor, we decided to take a drive through the nearby town of Leura, which is known for its flowers (but we didn't get any pictures, because by then it was raining). This picture of the Blue Mountain shows just how dreary the day was.

Take a peek at the next blog to see the Mountains in all their glory.
